Curing Your Golf Slice Is Easier Than You Think

According to a Golf.com survey, more than 70% of golfers say slices are their number one problem. And many golf experts estimate that about 85% of players slice or hook the ball. Needless to say, there’s a lot of attention paid to – and a lot of money thrown at – curing a terrible golf slice. Almost all golf equipment manufacturers claim to make the ball fly straight.

Golfers spend money on lessons, DVDs, swing trainers, self-correcting balls and anti-slice drivers only to see the slightest improvement in their slices.

As golf instructors say to “Cure Your Slice in 3 Simple Steps,” the actual instructions are more complicated: “Your swing is in-out or out-in; you’re rotating your wrists; your hands are too tight (or loose); your stance , grip, backswing, downswing or something wrong, wrong, wrong.” When you count all the “pointers,” golf instructors point to more than 25 different factors that can get you to pieces.

These experts ignore the fundamental reason that any of these errors lead to curved flight paths. Meaning: If your clubface hits the ball at the wrong angle, it creates friction between the clubface and the ball which causes sidespin. That sidespin is what makes you shred.

So, the final treatment is very simple. Reduce clubface friction and you’ll reduce your slice. But, will any old shoe material work?

As a former high stakes golf gambler, I can’t believe more players don’t know what the old golf pros and high stakes gamblers have known forever. Wipe petroleum jelly or lip balm on your clubface and you’ll hit the ball longer and straighter every time. Everyone in the game calls it “greasing” their club (even Lee Trevino mentioned it on David Feherty’s new show). But using traditional “grease” on your clubface is a pain in the butt.

“Grease” is necessary before every shot and makes a mess of your head cover and towel, and worst of all, gets on your grips and hands.

Fortunately, there are new alternatives to “grease” that don’t have those problems. With the advent of nanotechnology, nanopolymer coatings can reduce sidespin better than any conventional “grease” used in golf, but without actually being greasy. Power Straight®, the original anti-slice golf club coating ©, is a patented nanopolymer scientifically engineered to do just that.

Although Power Straight® is completely invisible to the eye and touch, each application lasts full circle and reduces slices or hooks by up to 72%. It works perfectly every time. Unlike traditional golf “grease,” this will remain your secret because you don’t need to apply it before every shot.

I’m not advocating using the Power Straight® for tournament play (but I’m not here to follow the rules of golf).

However, according to several independent studies, some recreational golfers play by even the strictest USGA rules. Honestly, I don’t believe they should. This flag football game is similar to going by NFL rules or a pick-up basketball game using NBA rules. This is absurd and completely unrealistic. Children go out in circles and often make their own rules. Hell, I’ve kicked a guy off the drive and tee box before. The only rules that matter are moving the ball (while in play), dropping the ball (out of bounds or lost) or penciling in a foul score.

The average golfer is well on his way to having a good time. It is a fun game that they use for relaxation, exercise, friendly competition or as an excuse to get out of the house. For those players, using Power Straight’s anti-slice coating can mean the difference between a day of frustration searching for your ball or a day of having a great time. For the rest of the players on the course, this means playing faster because they’re not waiting for you while you’re in the woods.

And, just to be clear, I’m not suggesting that you stop working on your golf skills. Even if you use the Power Straight®, proper form will help improve your slice even more.

My personal opinion is that beginners and high-handicap players should focus more on their short game than their drive. On the driving range, we often see beginners only practicing with their driver, when they should be hitting a lot of wedges, working on a consistent punch shot (which can get you out of a lot of trouble), and spending a lot of their practice time. On putting green. Improving your short game is where you’ll see the most improvement in your score.

Once you’ve mastered your short game, you can work on all the intricacies of the perfect drive. Until then, just go out and hit the ball and let the Power Straight® help you achieve more accuracy and hit more fairways. Spend your time thinking about your next shot instead of finding your ball.
