Fantasy Football Picks – My Top Five Quarterback Rankings For Your Own Cheatsheet

I published my 32 fantasy football picks for quarterback. Here are the top 5 picks. If you’re new to fantasy football, this is the place to start your own quarterback ranking list. These may change as the year progresses.

1. Drew Brees/Saints

– The Super Bowl MVP should have another big year in 2010. A big key to his success was the re-signing of RB Pierre Thomas. Although RB Reggie Bush has shown improvement in the running game, he is still a much more lethal pass catcher than a runner. Thomas adds the threat of the running game, which could take some of the pressure off Brees on early downs. With the emergence of Robert Mechem and Marques Colston at WR, Devery Henderson and TE’s Jeremy Shockey, David Thomas and rookie Jimmy Graham, and a very good offensive line, Brees should once again be one of the best fantasy players at his position.

2. Aaron Rodgers/Packers– As the entire team continues to improve, Rodgers has a chance to put together another spectacular season. While the offensive line is adequate, it will be scary to see what kind of numbers Rodgers can put up on one of the best offensive lines in football. Jermichael Finley has the potential to be one of the top TEs in the NFL and the presence of Donald Driver and Greg Jennings at WR make Rodgers a fantasy force to be reckoned with.

3. Peyton Manning/Colts– Peyton is Peyton, and he proved his legacy strong by having an MVP type year and leading his team to the Super Bowl. He did it without the great Marvin Harrison and his “replacement” Anthony Gonzalez going an entire season without injury. With WR Austin Coley coming off a great season and WR Pierre Garcon continuing to improve, there’s no reason to think Manning won’t have another great season in 2010. WR Reggie Wayne is still one of the top WRs in the league, and TE Dallas Clark should be one of the top 3 TEs again, making it even more certain that Manning will be one of the top fantasy QBs taken this season.

4. Philip Rivers/Chargers– Rivers’ success will depend heavily on the re-signing of WRs Vincent Jackson and Malcolm Floyd, both of whom are currently unsigned. Not that Floyd has proven to be a great receiver, but he’s the best next to Vincent Jackson. Jackson showed last year that he can be one of the top WRs in the NFL, but without him, Rivers’ WRs would be Legedu Nani’ and Craig Davis or rookie free agent Sei Ajirotutu. Antonio Gates is still a monster at TE, and rookie Dedrick Epps could get some looks at 2nd TE, catch some passes out of the backfield with Darren Sproles and rookie Ryan Matthews, but you can’t expect Rivers without Jackson and Floyd. Enter the number it was. Keep an eye on this situation, because the rivers could go down if these guys, especially Jackson, decide not to re-sign.

5. Tom Brady / Patriots– Even though Brady no longer deserves one of the top 3 spots, he is still one of the best fantasy QBs in the league. Randy Moss may not give 100 percent on every play, but he’s still one of the top 5 WRs in the game. Wes Welker’s injury isn’t as bad as it was originally thought, and they also added rookie Taylor Price and veteran Torey Holt to their receiving corps, meaning they should be as good, or at least better, than last year. RB Kevin Faulk is also a reliable receiver, and the combination of former Falcon/Titan Alge Crumpler and Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez at TE means some passes will be thrown at that position. With one of the top 10 offensive lines in football, there’s no reason to believe Brady won’t be a top five QB again in 2010.

So there you have it. About halfway through my full fantasy football picks for quarterback.
