The Flirting Lifestyle – "I Bet You Tell All the Girls That"
When thinking about the subject of this article, I first thought – for some unknown, strange reason – of the now-infamous interview Hall-of-Fame quarterback Joe Namath did with Suzy Kolber during an NFL game several years ago.
Clearly drunk, or make that “plaster,” Broadway Joe began the interview by commenting on the performance of New York Jets quarterback Chad Pennington.
But in response to Ms. Kolber’s follow-up question, he exclaimed, “I want to kiss you.” Interestingly, Suzy handles the brouhaha with equanimity…even seems to get a bit of a kick out of it.
Now, after the extraordinary moment unfolded in front of millions of people on live television, Namath apologized profusely for his actions on ESPN. Of course.
Here’s the thing, though. The alcohol involved must have only served to loosen his inhibitions about saying something like that on national television, and especially at a…um…inappropriate moment.
Actually it was his nature to say IT.
Anyone familiar with Joe Namath’s style knew deep down that it was probably his own. After all, he’s been running the “direct game” genre with women off-camera for over 45 years.
Long before the man became the hero of Super Bowl III, he has been known to many women around.
So what can you learn from the drunken football legend? And better yet, what can you learn from the sports reporter’s carefree handling of his apparent flirtation?
Well, of course, I agree with you 100% that you can learn a lot of things you shouldn’t.
But…there is a very important principle that is a hidden pearl of wisdom. And that’s what I want to know.
Simply put, if flirting is ingrained in your personality as part of your lifestyle, women know better than to believe that their potential “rejection” has any real power.
Think about that statement for a moment, because it is very heavy.
Basically, if you’re used to flirting with women and flirting freely, it’s hard for a woman to know for sure how meaningful your interest is in the first place, isn’t it?
And it puts you in control of your interactions with women and acts as a real buffer to deal with “rejection”.
But most guys treat flirting as an exceptional behavior rather than a lifestyle habit, and so every time they interact with a woman, they find themselves undermining masculine leadership power.
Let me explain how this works against you and why it matters.
If you, like most guys, are worried about “offending” by showing any interest in women, you’re essentially setting yourself up for a walking self-prophecy.
That is to say, if it is unusual for you to ever show interest in a woman, whenever you do, it will come across as a serious transaction for both you and the woman.
You have to get yourself and your words together for the “big moment”.
What does it do? Obviously, that puts the woman in complete control of the situation and we are literally at her mercy.
She might be thinking, “Oh wow… I really like this guy. I have to give a serious response here.”
And indeed, in this situation you would have an LED. You hang around to see how she reacts to you.
Granted, she might respond favorably to you—or she might not. But the fact remains: most people treat flirting as dead serious stuff, and that puts women in the “hot seat” every time.
Ironically, she’s in charge, and she doesn’t want to be in this situation.
Compare this situation with Broadway Joe’s example above. In regards to one of television’s biggest blunders, you could tell by Suzy Colbert’s reaction that she was giving him a “free pass.”
Granted, she’s a pro when it comes to broadcasting, so she can think on her feet pretty quickly.
But as the conversation continued, “Yeah, sure Joe. I bet you tell all the girls that.” And I would guess that about 75% of the viewing audience was thinking exactly the same thing.
And rightly so. Because indeed he “tells all the girls that”.
Now I’m not going to tell you to “go and do like Joe Namath”, like get drunk and say things on TV that you later have to apologize for. And I also wouldn’t suggest “direct games” like walking up to random women and telling them you want to kiss them.
In fact, think of “lifestyle flirting” as a more fun, playful joke for real-world purposes.
But I’m going to tell you to think about the wonderful message conveyed when a woman utters the magic phrase: “I bet all you girls say that”.
Do you think Namath gives a rat’s tail a second time whether Susie Kolber kissed him or not? Do you think he has already made her his girlfriend in his mind? married her? Made babies with her?
That series of rapid-fire questions just got more ridiculous as it went on, huh?
Simply put, if you can become a comfortable person with flirting as a lifestyle, rejection is off the table.
Instead of giving women unconditional power, your casual-not-so-selective attitude toward interacting with MOTOS (members of the opposite sex) puts you back in control.
Because of this, women are at a loss of mystery as to whether or not you would actually “choose” her if given the chance.
You are seen as a man who admires all great women, so you show zero disappointment or fear of loss.
When you can see flirting or any kind of interaction with women, it changes everything in that light.
Instead of picking women out for flirting, if you can open yourself up to playing with most women wherever you go, you’ll hit “critical mass” before you know it.
And when you start seeing the results of this “lifestyle flirting,” it’s wild.
Instead of women feeling lonely when you flirt with them, they’ll feel left out if you don’t.
That’s right… the women you’ve been flirting with will be in the “hot seat” from now on. Instead, women you don’t want.
Again, a caveat: we’re not talking about an overt approach like Broadway Joe’s example. You just start a conversation here and interact in a fun way.
And I’m not an unreasonable person. I can’t expect you to “flip the switch” and change this lifestyle overnight.
But I challenge you to step beyond your comfort zone the next time you’re in a social situation where you have the ability to meet new women and feel free to interact with them or all of them – now that you’ve realized the more women you enjoy interacting with. , the less you “pre-qualify” any one of them.
Try it… and be amazed.
And I guess you might not want to stop there.
