My Top 12 NFL Quarterbacks Of All Time – Old And New!

There are many quarterbacks that have played over the years. I am sure you will think that there are others on this list or someone else. Even if it’s true, these are my dandy dozen and I stand by them! 🙂

I’ll start with #12 and work my way up to #1. You might think you already know my top 12, but I bet you’re in for a little surprise. These are also not needles in haystack selection. Each of them is in this list.

I guess before I start the list, I’ll give you my honorable mention. It’s a hand full of quarterbacks that fall on the outside of my list. First on that list is Kurt Warner, the arena player turned NFL star. Next up is the star quarterback who won five championships in the 1960s, that guy named Bart Starr of the Packers.

Then there is Warren Moon who passed for nearly 50,000 yards and was the first African-American quarterback elected to the Hall of Fame. The Chargers had Dan Fouts who ushered in the Air Corral era that followed with never before seen passing stats. Then last, but by no means least is a Bears quarterback named Sid Luckman. He still holds most of the Bears passing records and retired in 1950.

#12 on my list now is Steve Young. 3 time Super Bowl champ J. Montana (who finished his career in KC) stepped in and the 49er never gave up a win. They just kept winning.

My #11 is Golden Boy from the 1990 Super Bowl winning Dallas Cowboys. Yes, you guessed it these guys. It’s Troy Aikman. I think those Super Bowls were more of a team success, but Ekman certainly played his part in the success process.

I think my #10 was probably the most underrated quarterback of his era. I think that was mostly due to his size believe it or not. He was a scrambler who was not taken seriously as a quarterback. The gentleman’s name was Fran Tarkenton. He wasn’t taken seriously, but his 47,000 yards in his career put him third all-time. (which few have done since) He made 3 Super Bowl appearances, losing all 3, but it wasn’t all his fault.

My #9 was a guy who played for the Steelers in the 1970s. The Steelers won 4 Super Bowls in that decade and could have won 5. His name is Terry Bradshaw.

In the #8 slot is 2-time Super Bowl winner John Elway of the Denver Broncos. He was a prime example of going to the title. He won those 2 Super Bowls in the last two years.

Now #7 was T.Bradshaw in the 80’s. The 49er’s won 4 Super Bowls behind a player named Joe Montana. I think most know Joe.

The #6 player is the man who holds all NFL passing records to date. Brett Favre accomplished more in 20 years than he ever thought possible. In more ways than one.

Moving up to #5 is the great Johnny Unitas. Many think he was the best of all time. His stats from the 60s can hold their own in today’s passing game. His 47 straight games with a touchdown pass still stands today.

Now #4 is arguably the best quarterback to never win a Super Bowl. The 9 time Pro Bowler is named Dan Marino. He holds all the Miami passing records that will never be broken.

My #3 is no surprise I’m sure. He is 3 Super Bowl winner Tom Brady. The Patriots have been riding on Wonder Boy’s arm for the past ten years. I don’t blame them one bit.

Pick #2 will be my #1 when he retires, as he will have all the passing records B. Favre has and then some. He is the Colts Super Bowl winning quarterback, Peyton Manning. He gives more to the game than anyone in the history of the game and it shows.

Now my #1 which may come as a surprise to some, but not me. He was the Browns’ big star before Jim Brown came on the scene. His name is the legendary Otto Graham. He won 7 championships in his first 10 years playing for the Browns. His winning percentage record for a starting quarterback, still stands at .810 today.

He was 57-13-1 as the starting quarterback. He also played DB for the Browns. His career winning record while playing for the Browns was an astounding 105-17-4. Yes, that was a long time ago, but success in football is still measured by wins today as it was then. There is no greater winner in football than Otto Graham!

I hope you enjoyed this interesting and informative article as much as I did writing it.
