EPL 2011-12 Preview: Blackburn Vs Chelsea

Blackburn are set to host Chelsea at Ewood Park in a Premier League matchday eleven on Saturday, November 5, 2011.

Blackburn are fresh from a 3-3 draw at Norwich in Week 10. The visitors drew first blood at the break after an eventful first half in which both sides missed chances. Rovers took the lead early on and the likes of Formica and Yakubu wasted a couple of goal scoring chances.

The Canaries missed a chance of their own when Morrison hit the post after Tierney and Pilkington got the home side down the left. However, Morrison made amends with an equalizer on 53 minutes, only for Yakubu to put the visitors ahead on 62 minutes and the game ended when Samba scored Blackburn’s third two minutes later. The Canaries had their foot in the door with Johnson’s goal on 82 minutes before Holt converted a late penalty in injury time to level the scores at 3-3.

In matchweek 10, Chelsea crossed swords with Arsenal at Stamford Bridge. Lampard fed Mata’s brilliant cross to give the home side an early lead on 14 minutes. Van Persie got his side back on level terms in the 37th minute, when Ramsey spotted Gervinho on the run and the Ivory Coast striker picked out Cech and leveled Van Persie who just happened to tap the ball into the defenseless net. But the hosts had the last laugh on the stroke of half-time, when captain Terry put them 2-1 up.

The second half was a flurry, as Arsenal fought back under Van Persie who bagged a hat-trick and Chelsea trailed 5-3, with Mata’s third goal in the 81st minute, much less the case. , too late

Chelsea lead Rovers 13-2 in the 20 league matches between the two sides. The last time they met was in January 2011, with Chelsea winning 2-0 in the game they hosted.

After 10 games, this season, Blackburn are currently in the relegation zone (18th place) on the Premier League points table, while Chelsea are fourth. In 5 home games Blackburn have won just one and lost 4; Chelsea have won 2 out of 5 games, lost 2 and drawn the remaining one. In their last 10 league matches, Blackburn have won just one, lost 6 and drawn 3; Chelsea have won 6, lost 3 and drawn one of their last 10 matches.

Chelsea are the bookies’ favorites to win, and will be keen to improve after a lackluster draw against Belgian side Genk in midweek in the Champions League.
