Golf Tips for Women – Grip, Posture and Breast Battles

When my husband started teaching me to play golf, I found his tips helpful but there were many things he didn’t understand about being a female golfer. For example, he didn’t have breasts to get in the way of his swing, and he wasn’t self-conscious about sticking his hips out while taking his stance. I felt stupid and awkward and often frustrated when my swing didn’t work like it did. I wanted to find a problem that I could easily find my A great way to swing and do that is to work with an experienced coach, including female golfers.

I suggest all women find a women’s golf coach or a man who has experience working with women to get the most out of your coaching experience. Here are some simple golf tips for women to get you started.

Get a grip

The first thing you need to learn is proper grip. Even if you’re not an experienced golfer or don’t know what a handicap is, you can look like you know your stuff with the right grip. A proper grip is the foundation of every swing so until you master this you can’t begin to learn anything else. With the right grip, you can mess up a shot here and there but you’ll always look like you know what you’re doing.

Grip down an inch or so on the shaft for better control of the club. The shaft should run diagonally from just below the pinky to the palm and the base of your index finger. Then wrap your fingers around the shaft so the club rests on your fingertips. Then place your thumb to the right of the center. The shaft of the club should be in the heel of your palm.

When you bring the other arm up, you should make a V with your hands that points between your right ear and right shoulder. This will give you a square clubface at impact. Avoid too strong a grip and too weak a grip or your club may fly. This is something you can practice over and over again at home until you get the hang of it.

Perfect posture

Second but equally important to your grip is your posture. I struggled to get right until I learned a simple trick that I practiced over and over again at home. You don’t want to get too close to a squashed ball and you don’t want to be too hard. Practice proper posture with the club on your back, on the side of your spin. Hold one end above your head and the other below your shoe. Now lie down so that the shaft of the club is flush with your spine and your spine is straight. This is your posture as you approach your swing, and you must practice it to maintain it throughout the swing.

Many women sit perfectly but lose their posture while swinging. Also make sure you keep enough space between your chin and your chest and don’t bring your head down or your chin into your chest. You should hold this posture throughout the swing, giving your shoulders room to move freely on your backswing. It may feel awkward at first but practice without hitting the ball and just swinging. Then work your way up to hitting but don’t worry about what happens to the ball after you make contact; Just focus on your posture. Eventually, you can pull all the pieces together into your live swing.

Breast battles

Do your breasts get in the way of your swing? Are you wondering if you need to have an A-cup to master golf? How do pros do it? If your chest is getting in the way of your swing, there’s a solution, and it doesn’t involve duct tape.

To solve this problem, at address, don’t stand too straight like you’ll see most men do. Instead, you’ll need to round your shoulders slightly to move your arms away from your body. This will give you more room to swing freely around your chest, without affecting your swing. Avoid pressing your breasts together with your inner elbows and hands. It also helps to wear a good, comfortable sports bra for support and to keep everything in place.
