Six Physical Education Games and Activities Your Elementary Students Will Love

The physical education games described in this article can be played as part of a warm-up at the beginning of gym class, during a period fully or partially devoted to sports or physical education activities, or at the end of class as part of a cool down. Exercise. In addition to the obvious benefits of providing good exercise, combating obesity and developing motor skills, other skills that my students demonstrate while playing these games are cooperation, sportsmanship and enjoyment.

1. Face to face

2. Partner tag

3. Grab the cane

Ask the students to form a circle or divide the class in two and form two circles. Each student has a number from 1 to the end. One student is “It” and stands on the floor in the center of the circle holding a cane or yard/meter stick. This student calls a number and releases the cane. The student whose number was called must catch the cane before it falls to the ground. If it fails, it becomes “it”.

4. Overpass

Divide the class into 2 even teams (or 4 for a larger class and run two games at once). Team 1 forms a circle and each member of Team 2 stands between the two members of Team 1. Team 1 member has one ball (volleyball, soccer ball, football, etc.) and team 2 members separate the same type of ball (ball, color, etc.).

On the word “go”, each team member passes their ball to the team member to their right (or left). The team that completes a full circle with their ball gets a point.

5. Pass and change

A third student, after catching the ball, throws it back to “it”. “He” then throws the ball at one of the two students, attempting to hit one before switching places. 6. Fish net

This game is played with two teams. One team is NET and the other team is FISH. To begin, each team stands behind the goal line at opposite ends of the field. The NET team chooses a captain and joins hands in a row. The fish team runs for free. On a signal, both teams run forward and the NET team tries to make a circle around the FISH as much as possible. Fish cannot move under the NET arm, but the fish can escape if the NET arm is released.

After the NET team forms their circle, the captain counts the number of fish caught. It is now the turn of the other team to NET.
