A study shows that most people are afraid of public speaking and that they are actually afraid of dying. I have been a professional comedian for 33 years and to this day, I go through different nerves before a show. And I remember when I first started there were nights where I wasn’t sure I could go on.

But over the years, after a lot of trial and error, I’ve learned how to channel that nervous energy and develop some sure fire ways to help anyone become more effective in public speaking. Before I offer my tips, the first thing to do is find out if you are a good candidate for assistance. For example, if the first words out of your mouth when you meet someone in public are “Your car sir,” or “Would you like some fries with that,” chances are you’re not talking enough to get by. Or, have you ever tried to rob a bank and the moment you were about to order the teller to pay the unmarked bills, you froze and forgot what to say? If so, why would you want to improve your public speaking, assuming you are now in prison? After all, nobody likes a snitch.

If you suffer from any of these symptoms, however, I believe I can help. Please note, this advice is not for everyone. If you’ve been a witness against a mob and are about to enter a government protection program, your fears of speaking in public and dying are probably the same. So these tips might not be for you.

To begin, let’s take a look at common speaking situations. For example, if you are asked by your boss to give a speech, it is natural to be nervous and nervous. That’s why the most important thing in any speech is to capture your audience in the first thirty seconds. This can usually be achieved by giving some kind of gift, for example, free money. The next tip is to try to make sure you are calm when you walk up to the podium. Among the methods I use are exercise, deep breathing, and hyperventilating until I pass out.
