Top 10 Offline Website Marketing Tools

When most people think about marketing their website, they think about “how can we get traffic online” and yet they completely ignore the offline website marketing tools that are already available for free and in most cases should be using.

In this article I want to give you 10 offline website marketing tools that are guaranteed to bring you traffic. However, one point to note is that it won’t be easy to track how many people are using these offline website marketing tools unless you ask them. So make sure your contact page on your website has a drop down box with these options for your customers to choose from. Often website owners only include online website marketing tools in the “How You Heard About Us” drop down box on their contact page.

So let’s get started…

Offline Tool #1 – Put your website address on your business signs

If you’re like my company, we’ve spent thousands of dollars on advertising signage at our business headquarters in Townsville Australia, but I’m still surprised as I visit other cities and towns, even countries, that businesses with really effective websites still don’t advertise on their web. address on their traditional bricks and mortar sign.

Let me throw something out to you… How do you want 37,000 people to visit you every day! I’m sure you’d do anything to get that kind of traffic, wouldn’t you? Of course you will. Well, there are 200 – 300 businesses on the road where we are and 37,000 vehicles pass through our road every day which we would call free traffic. So as a business owner why don’t you put your website address on all your business signs. Have you noticed that less than 10 of the 200-300 businesses on our street have a website address on their business? That’s right, less than ten.

How crazy is this! Getting your business going means free traffic. Never underestimate driving because of traffic, and if you don’t believe me, ask yourself, “Why do companies like Walmart, Harvey Norman, Coles Myer, etc. put their stores on main roads?” For a drive through traffic! It doesn’t matter if you get only 100 cars a day or 1 million cars a day, having your website address on your website is a mandatory action. If you do this, you’ll find that when people go to work and look at your website address, they look at your website as soon as they get to work, rather than at any other time. If someone has a specific need for your products, studies have shown, they are more likely to check out your website first than come to your store.

Offline Tool #2 – Put your website address on your vehicle

Like the previous offline website marketing tool, this one is a no brainer. If you have sign writing for your business on your car, you should put your website address on it. Did you forget to leave your phone number on the car? Of course not (I’ve seen some cars that even forget it) so why would you forget to put your website address on your car. If your business sells products and services over the Internet, you need to tell your customers where to find you.

30% of our cars detailing the traffic I own comes from our vehicles and over 30% of our business comes from people seeing our cars on the road, then visiting our web address to view our prices and services, and then booking their car. So, rule number 2, never forget your website address on your vehicle.

Offline Tool #3 – Put your website address in your Yellow Pages ads and White Pages ads

The world seems to be obsessed with the Yellow Pages. It is truly an event. We pay thousands of dollars a year to be in the Yellow Pages, and the three things we check to make sure our ads are there are our address, telephone number, and web address. Many people will actually check your website first before they ring you. If the website address doesn’t tell them anything, they’ll just go to the website whose website address they need to know.

Offline Tool #4 – Put your website address on your business cards

Here’s another one of those no brainers. Everyone in the business should have an email address and a website address, and both should appear prominently on your business cards. Since the bulk of business these days is done via email, simply not having an email address is costing your business. I know some businesses that won’t communicate with you except by email and phone. They refuse to deal with people who have faxes because they want to save money and faxes cost money.

Get your website address on your business cards. If you’ve just gone and printed brand new business cards, go to your local stationary supply company and buy some small stickers and stick them on the back. It may seem difficult but your customers will know how to contact you.

Offline Tool #5 – Put your website address on all media ads

When you do any advertising, whether it’s a leaflet drop in Time Square or a billboard ad (great if you can afford it) make sure your website address is on the ad. When people see your website address, they are more likely to visit your site before coming to your store. Many important sales are won or lost before you even see the customer, and in many cases your website can be the deciding factor.

Offline Tool #6 – If you sponsor a charity or sports group, include your website address next to your company name.

If you decide to sponsor a charity or charity day or a sporting group, make sure the charity or sporting group includes your name and your website on their printed materials. Humans are really weird because they are more likely to remember your website address than your phone number. As before, if they see your details at a charity or sporting event, they are more likely to go to you and more likely to go to your competitors because you are actively supporting your community. To accomplish this, make sure the charity or sports group gives customers a way to find you.

Remember to have your website address and logo if possible on all their printed materials.

Offline Tool #7 – Put your website address on your uniform

One of the main reasons we give uniforms to our employees is that they are easily recognizable when they are out and about but more than that, uniforms make my employees the billboards of my company. Most companies only include their logos when developing their uniforms. My recommendation to everyone is to include your website address as well.

Many people have told me that they have seen my employees in shopping centers and seen our web address on their uniforms and that is how they found us. Some of our biggest customers come from the website address on my staff uniform. It is one of the cheapest and free offline website marketing tools.

Offline Tool #8 – Put your website address on all your commercial merchandise

If you are creating merchandise to give to your customers, make sure you include your website address in the merchandise. In fact, including your website address in your merchandise is less intrusive than including your phone number. Let me give you an example. As I write this article I am sitting in our business headquarters and I see a stainless steel mug that my brother gave me from Canada (he lives in Canada). Then this is the merchandise of Prince George Savings Credit Union. I tried looking at their site and put in the usual but all I got were spam sites. It was difficult for me to find their website and so I gave up.

I should note that this stainless steel mug takes pride of place on my desk in my office and I use it all the time. If this stainless steel mug had their website address on it I could have easily looked up their website and maybe set up a bank account or invested some money with them but they have made it very difficult to do so.

If your merchandise is designed to get your name out there or market you in the workplace, make sure it’s easy for your customers to find you. Remember, most people will go to your website and then call or visit your store to avoid overselling.

Offline Tool #9 – Include your website address in your logo

When I work with our SEO clients and their business coaches, one of the things we look at is their logo. When I first set up our training and car detailing business, one of the things I did was include our website address in the logo. The main advantage of this is that where our logo is, our website address is, and it allows people to find an easy way to contact us.

Often times when you sponsor teams at football games, the only information they let show about you is your logo. If you’re one of those companies that don’t have a head office, it might be hard for people to find you, but if you include your website address in your logo, your customers will always have a surefire way to find you. Remember the human belief, “We are lazy!”

Offline Tool #10 – Put your website address on your press release

When you issue a press release, make sure you include your website address on it. Many times, media companies will actually include your website address in their news, especially when they post information about your press release on their website. I’ve seen a trend of doing this on MSNBC, Ninemsn and CNN. The advantage for you as a website owner is that the link they include in the text will be considered a higher quality link than others, as most of these three media sites have a PR ranking of 8 or more which means it will help you in your work. Web page ranking in search engines.

Another point of this is that you can get a traffic peak while your news is actually being seen or played. For example, as a proud Australian I was saddened to hear about the death of Steven Irwin, an Australian icon and legend and a proud Queenslander like myself, but when his family released a press release about his death and what they stood for, Wild was included. Life Warriors website address on press release. Virtually every media outlet around the world has posted the website address on their website which means this website is doing great. Which I am very excited about … at least something good will come out of this sad situation.
