Womens Self Defense – I Still Get Chills Thinking About It

I want to tell you something. This is a true story, although I didn’t really think so.

First, I want you to imagine a self-defense class full of eager participants. This particular class is full of women learning how to defend themselves against bigger, stronger attackers.

In fact, this women’s self-defense class is the last of the four-week program, “Ladies Night Out.” We were focusing on ground pins and other situations that deal with manipulative-type actions like rape attacks.

Everyone was having a great time physically and socially. The class was going well. The serious discussions were also enjoyable and engaging as everyone was there in a spirit of mutual support for what everyone agreed was a very important issue for women in today’s often violent world.

“So? What’s the deal?”I can almost hear you asking.

Well, the “Agreement,” That being said, it hasn’t happened yet.

You see, the class ended with everyone in high spirits. After learning so much and having such a good time, we enrolled some women in regular classes.

Anything can be good, right?

right

But…

something could be worse. a lot too bad

And like I said…

I still get chills thinking about it!

what is this What can affect a 10th degree black belt to be cold and more than a year after the event?

Good question.

He watches as the fourth class continues. At the same time I was teaching women how not to fall prey to…

…to be able to avoid, escape, or effectively fight off a brutal attack…

A 13-year-old girl was brutally raped only yard Through the front door of my academy!

Now, how’s that for a kicker?

As I teach other women, many of them girls’ age, how to avoid this…

…she was experiencing the nightmare for the first time!

And like I said…

…She was only a few hundred feet away…

…not even half the length of a football field…

…where women like her were empowered with lessons and skills that she could have used to escape her attacker.

As a police officer, I remember seeing victims who were assaulted or potential witnesses nearby…

…who never knew there was an attack!

It’s one of the reasons I do what I do now.

I noticed that…

…as a cop I was doing more reporting than saving people from the ‘bad guys’ and…

…During the first few critical moments of an attack, victims have no one to rely on.

So, here I am…years later…teaching people how to effectively deal with violence so they can go home safe and sound.

And yet, reality slaps me in the face with this happening so close to me. And, I was teaching the same things that could have saved this girl from weeks of physical therapy and years of emotional and psychological trauma.

And through all of this, is there a lesson you know? We should see this girl’s suffering and pain.

No. We must be able to look beyond our own indifference and passivity to see that.

what is the lesson This is

He is sitting behind our computer…

…wasting watching TV…

…reading books about it…

…or thinking we’ll do it “someday”…

will be No Get the information you need to stay safe Today.

This girl, perhaps influenced by her parents, teachers and other mentors, believed in one thing…

...all victims have one thing in common.

She believed, through ignorance or denial…

…”It would never happen to her.”

Well…

It happened her

And only a few dozen feet from my front door!

And, you know what else?

I’m really glad this happened!

No, it doesn’t bother me that there are rapists in the world… are

It doesn’t upset me that the low lives attack the good people – they do

What I know in today’s day and age…

  • High crime
  • Attacks every day
  • Rape and now…
  • Terrorism

…those who sit idly by and believe either, “It won’t happen to them,” or…

…they expect the government–the police–or someone else–to protect them.

Well, not only won’t they, but they can’t. “They” cannot be everywhere at once. “They” can’t be with you 24/7.

and…

…only this cannot happen each of us

…In the United States alone there is an attack every 17 seconds, which means…

…that Maybe it will to happen

But…

I know you are aware of this fact, right?

I know you don’t live in this delusional world “won’t happen”right?

I know you take action to learn the lessons you need to stay safe and secure in this world…

right?

As I always say, and this brutal attack on an innocent young woman reminds me, in today’s world…

Self defense is not an option…

This is a Responsibility!
