Foote Notes: Minnesota at Green Bay

That’s unlikely to be what ABC and NFL executives had in mind when creating the Monday Night Football schedule. After all, Minnesota and Green Bay faced off in an NFC playoff game last January on the same field. What a difference a year makes as the NFC North combatants each hold a losing record heading into tonight’s contest.

The Vikings, who are 5-point road dogs tonight, improved to 4-5 (SU and ATS) after a 24-21 upset win at Giants Stadium last weekend. Minnesota generated just 3 points on offense and a head-spinning 268 yards on the day, but the defense and specials had big success. The Vikings, in fact, became the first team in NFL history to return a kickoff, punt and interception for a TD in the same game.

Mike Tice’s team is 3-1 (SU and ATS) in their past four overall, but is largely unproven at 1-4 (SU and ATS) away from the friendly Metrodome this season. The Scandalous Vikings are 2-11 (ATS) in their last thirteen vs. The teams have also had disastrous performances against lower contemporary foes with a losing record.

The Vikings’ injury-riddled offense currently ranks 25th in the NFL overall, while their defense ranks 28th. However, one major caveat to consider is series history. The Purple have taken the green in eight of the last ten meetings with Green Bay. In addition, the Vikings sent Favre and company “packing” in a 23-20 rout of a home win less than a month earlier.

Speaking of Green Bay, the heartbreak loss to Minnesota has been described as a microcosm of its season. The Packers are an ugly 2-7 (SU) and an unimaginable 1-3 (SU) on the “still frozen tundra” of Lambeau Field. The results are clearly disappointing for a team that has won the NFC North in each of the past three seasons.

Despite the poor straight record, GB is anything but an easy out. The Packers have outscored six of their last seven opponents during this span and are 5-2 (ATS). Also note that five of their seven season losses have come by 7, 3, 3, 1 and 2 points.

However, close only counts horseshoes and grenades, as well as betting on underdogs. Green Bay has won just two games on the year and is priced as a 5.5-point favorite tonight. Good luck with your bets tonight!

Getting Back On The Diet Track After Thanksgiving Indulgence

A few days of eating the Thanksgiving feast and all its leftovers can leave you struggling to fit into your pants as you get ready to go back to work. Eating and drinking too much during the holidays can make you feel really sick and not want to get out of bed. It’s not a good feeling when you’re not where you should be after taking in calories on the treadmill. No need to crash diet because you’re down from those delicious calories.

Start slowly by eating right. Green is the way to go. Not only do vegetables contain fiber to help flush out toxins, they’re also good for you. They help detox the body. Fiber can be a key factor in helping you feel better. Breakfast is a great place to start grubbing up fiber. Eating a good breakfast will start the day off right and the fiber will help keep you fuller for longer.

drink up We’re not talking about eggnog here. That eggnog drink can increase your calorie count by a few hundred. Water and tea are the best drinks to help get you on track. Thanksgiving dinner is packed with sodium so your stomach may feel a little bloated. Water will help release this feeling. Water is good for everything, but especially good for helping flush out toxins. Tea helps digestion. Ginger and chamomile tea also provide relief. Green tea has been shown in studies to improve metabolism which has a dual effect on those killer calories.

After you’ve had that nice breakfast with a big glass of water, make a plan to get yourself back on track at the gym or in the cool air. We can all agree that holiday gatherings and goodies don’t end with Thanksgiving. You better have the type to attack the glittering plates that you just want to indulge in. It’s always okay to indulge a little, but without a plan you can find yourself devouring an entire plate of cookies. Many gyms are crowded with people who failed after the new year and just want to lose weight. The best feeling can be that you are miles ahead of such people on the treadmill and in the figuratively healthy world.

A friendly game of football, basketball or soccer can help get your motor going. Shopping in droves for those perfect gifts will help boost your body. Anything that gets your heart rate up will help get you back on track. During the Thanksgiving holidays, you’ll be in a recliner enjoying football on television. Now is the time to throw the couch potato on the floor and get active. Decorating the house for the holidays will not only let your inner child shine, but you’ll burn calories while you hustle.

Get ready to eat your refrigerator and enjoy it all as the holiday gathering invitations roll in. You don’t have to eat all the food in the gathering. You can taste some goodies and get on with the social aspect of it all. If you’re feeling like a big meal again, wait a little longer for dessert and you may not be as hungry as you thought. Those pants will fit and you’ll start running on the traditional New Year’s resolution to stay healthy.

Do You Believe You Can Walk On Water College Football The Keynote Speaker (Part 1): Sitting Down for Another Chat With Dr Eric Serrano

You are searching about Do You Believe You Can Walk On Water College Football, today we will share with you article about Do You Believe You Can Walk On Water College Football was compiled and edited by our team from many sources on the internet. Hope this article on the topic Do You Believe You Can Walk On Water College Football is useful to you.

The Keynote Speaker (Part 1): Sitting Down for Another Chat With Dr Eric Serrano

Let’s go back in time to the Society of Weight-Training Specialists 2005 Symposium held in Mississauga, Canada on November 4-5, 2005. It was touted as The Best of SWIS – The Final Symposium and for good reason. Some of the top names in the industry were there including Dr. John Berardi, Charles Poliquin, Paul Chek, Dave Tate, Charles Staley, and Joe DeFranco just to name a few. All of these guys should be familiar to the weightlifting audience.

Who had the honor to deliver the keynote presentation among all these giants? It was none other than Dr. Eric Serrano. Serrano has always been one of the more popular presenters at SWIS, and he is regarded quite highly by his peers when it comes to sports nutrition and supplementation. The man knows his stuff – there’s no doubt about that.

I had the pleasure to sit down with Dr. Serrano during the event for another informative interview. We tried to chat at lunch on the first day, but with big, somewhat opinionated Dave Tate at our table, who could ever get a word in edgewise, or more appropriately, who would ever try? Actually, the place was so loud and our time was limited that it was a bit of a bust. We fared much better on the second day when we took off during one of the sessions to a remote area of the conference hall. Armed with a Dictaphone in one hand and a bunch of questions scribbled on a page in the other hand, I fired away!

Now, fast forward to today. Why did it take over a year to get this story to you? Very simple – I’ve been extremely busy! Writing is not my primary occupation; training is! It’s not like I write a ton for EzineArticles on a regular basis, but I’ve had my fair share of articles published here. However, this past year, in particular, has been killer! I won’t bore you with all the details, but suffice it to say, writing was definitely put on the back burner.

That is not to say that I did not try to get this out sooner. I actually had three people attempt to decipher the interview – my wife, my assistant, and my kids’ caregiver – and all three failed miserably. Why? Two reasons:

  1. They could not understand what the hell we were talking about, and
  2. They could not understand a word that came out of Eric’s mouth! (He’s got a pretty thick Puerto Rican accent.)

So that meant I had to do the leg work. Anyhow, enough talk already. This vintage wine needs to be uncorked! Let’s get to it.

JP: How do you detect overreaching and overtraining? What should one do in a situation like this? Everyone has stress in their lives – how do we curb it?

ES: When you are talking about overreaching and overtraining, you’ve got to be careful because most people will just look at your training program and say you’re fine. Well, they don’t look at your sleeping habits. Are you married with kids? Are you dating someone behind your wife’s back? Are you going to church? Are you working? You’ve got to look at all these factors.

To gauge stress, you can always measure cortisol in the blood, and now you can even measure its conversion in the urine which gives you a better picture. Research also indicates that measuring amino acids is effective, specifically the glutamine to glutamic acid ratio should be a certain number. If I measure that in the blood, I can tell right away if you are overtraining. I discovered this ratio after reviewing a number of research papers, but it’s my little secret!

JP: What is your opinion of the Adrenal Stress Index test by Diagnostechs? This is a saliva test used to measure free cortisol rhythm throughout the day (as well as testing DHEA, insulin, progesterone, and a bunch of other things.)

ES: Saliva testing for cortisol is more accurate than blood, and urine is even more accurate than both of them but it’s also more expensive. The body gets rid of cortisol by degrading it to cortisone which you can then measure in the urine. For most purposes, though, saliva is good enough and the ASI test by Diagnostechs is pretty good.

JP: By the way, would you check progesterone levels in a male, and would you ever prescribe it to a male?

ES: The only time I would check progesterone levels in a male is when their testosterone or DHEA levels do not return to normal, or they are depressed, or they experience joint problems. Then I would check it. Progesterone is actually considered the mother hormone.

JP: Hang on a second. I thought Pregnenlone was the mother of all hormones?

ES: Well, what comes after pregnenlone? Progesterone, of course. I’d rather prescribe progesterone than pregnenlone to bypass an unnecessary step. Why build a house from the basement when you can start on the main floor, to use a loose analogy? I have tried this with a few males with low testosterone and it has worked quite well. Just 100 mgs and they feel great – no more depression, no more headaches, etc. so I do think it has merit in certain cases.

Now it can get quite complicated because progesterone can increase androgen levels (i.e. anabolic hormones) or it can increase cortisol (i.e. a catabolic hormone.) I can manipulate those pathways somewhat by giving the patient just a bit of cortisone to encourage progesterone toward the androgenic route.

JP: Hold up their doc. If you give cortisone, aren’t you adding fuel to the fire?

ES: Oh, good question! Think about it this way. If you have a patient who is under an extreme amount of stress and they are already producing quite a bit of cortisol, by giving them just enough exogenous cortisone, it can help lower their endogenous cortisol production significantly through feedback inhibition. It’s a way of tricking the body!

JP: Ahhh, much like the trick you use with hyperchlorydic patients (i.e. people who produce too much stomach acid), you give them a bit of HCL to lower their own production.

ES: That’s right.

JP: Smart! What about the controversy that DHEA is over-prescribed today, and that after a month of use, in most males it will increase estrogen levels and in most females testosterone. Is this true?

ES: This is very true, although it depends on the dosage as well as the size of the person. For instance, you don’t want to start the average female on 50 mgs of DHEA right off the bat. Always start low and work your way up. Even a 25 mg dose is too much in most cases. Start around half that amount and work up in 5 mg doses for best effect. For males, I start them at 25 mgs.

JP: Should you cycle off of DHEA after a certain period of time?

ES: If you are below the age of 40 for males and 35 for females, then you should cycle DHEA. Above those ages, there’s no need to since you are not producing that much anymore.

Keep in mind that it is very common for people to use DHEA and testosterone together. This is a mistake. What happens when you use both of them simultaneously? They spill over into estrogen!

JP: Okay, while we are on the subject, what are the best forms of DHEA (i.e. sublingual, oral, etc.) and testosterone?

ES: For DHEA, sublingual is best and for testosterone, creams and injections work best but I do prefer the cream form.

JP: Which cream – Androgel or Testim?

ES: Another great question! Here’s the low down between the tw Androgel will result in higher total testosterone levels while Testim will give you higher free levels which is actually more desirable. The other difference is in the smell. Most females will be attracted to guys using Testim than Androgel.

JP: Interesting! What are your views on Testosterone replacement and anti-aging therapies then?

ES: I believe in testosterone replacement and not just for males. Testosterone is actually the most underprescribed medication for females. I may give a female a packet of Testim or Androgel to use every 4 or 5 days depending on her situation (i.e. symptoms, menstrual cycle, etc.)

Melatonin is another anti-aging remedy. People who are depressed and have a hard time sleeping at night often present with very high cortisol levels. Melatonin can help counter the ill-effects of cortisol and induce sleep if taken at bedtime. The problem is that most people take too high of a dose. Again, start low at around 1-2 mgs and work your way up from there.

JP: Good advice, but let’s go back to testosterone for a second. What would you recommend to a female interested in experimenting with steroids? How about natural methods to enhance testosterone in females? And more importantly, how does a guy boost his girlfriend’s or wife’s libido through the roof without her knowing it???

ES: My first question to her would be why do you want to experiment with steroids? Is it health related or performance related? As a physician, I can not prescribe any drug for performance enhancing purposes; however, if she was to ask me what my honest opinion is of whether a female can compete at a high level without these ergogenic aids, my answer would be [At this point, the noise in the restaurant was so loud, you could not hear a thing on the tape. It got better around here] is a product that is not on the market yet that contains tribulus, avena sativa, longjack and other little goodies. We’ve used this on females with incredible results. We measured testosterone levels and in 100% of the cases (we used 19 women in the study), total testosterone did not rise but free testosterone definitely did go up. They could not explain why, but all of the subjects felt better after using this product.

Now, about raising your girlfriend’s or wife’s libido without her knowing, well there is a sneaky way of doing it but you did not hear it from me. Theoretically, if a man was to apply some testosterone cream to his body and while it’s fresh, hop into bed and give his partner a great big hug (and maybe hold onto her a few seconds longer than normal), there’s a good chance that a small amount may (accidentally) rub off on her. In fact, they have studied this in real life with Androgel, believe it or not, and it did significantly raise the partner’s testosterone levels in no time!

JP: Wow, talk about 2 for 1! I’ve heard of females applying a small amount of testosterone cream to the clitoris to boost libido, but this one has some serious potential… umm, I mean that is very unethical. Shame on you!

While we’re on the vagina (so to speak), is there any way to increase your chances of conceiving a male? As I understand it, the more alkaline the environment, the better your chances for male conception. Is that true?

ES: Yes, that is true somewhat but there are other factors involved. For instance, the male Y chromosome is faster and weaker; whereas, the female X chromosome is stronger and slower and thus will stay around longer with a better chance for survival. That is why there are more female conceptions. To better your chances of continuing the family name, have sex as close to ovulation as possible. The environment is more alkaline at that point and it will improve the chances of the Y chromosome making it through.

JP: I know you will be presenting a seminar on this topic soon, but can you briefly describe the diagnostic methods you use to evaluate hormones?

ES: Well, you have urine, saliva and blood. As I mentioned previously, if I have a choice, I prefer urine because it gives you the breakdown of metabolites over the past 24 hours. Blood will only give you a snapshot of that particular time and it is not always truly indicative of what’s happening in your system. If you were watching a football game, for example, and your team lost, your blood work would show elevated cortisol and depressed testosterone values for that particular time. So how do you know if this a normal reading or not? Urine is more accurate in this manner.

JP: Let’s discuss the thyroid gland for a second. If TSH levels are high, how do you go about improving thyroid function by natural means? And just for a review, what about if TSH levels are low? Also, do you feel that the morning body temperature test is valid to gauge thyroid function? It’s been criticized quite a bit lately.

ES: You know, I’ve played around with this quite a bit, but if someone comes along with high TSH, I don’t fool around. It’s just too important. I place them on Armour Thyroid which is actually a natural thyroid source – no supplement is as effective. In fact, if it is very high, I will use Thyrolar first which is a synthetic version of T4/T3, and then introduce Armour Thyroid once their levels normalize. And I’ve had some cases in my office where I have been able to wean patients off of Armour Thyroid after 6-9 months of use so they are not on it forever. They just needed a bit of nutrition (i.e. raw material) to feed the thyroid gland to get it working again!

If TSH levels are very low, you need to find out why they are hyperthyroid, e.g. Is it Graves disease? Do they have cysts? Etc.

Actually, many people can present with normal TSH levels but their thyroid can still be out of whack. Many drugs/medications are culprits for this.

Here’s another aspect that you may not have thought of. Why do people gain weight when they quite smoking? One of the primary reasons is that nicotine increases the conversion of T4 to T3. Well, when nicotine is no longer there, T3 levels begin to drop!

Regarding the morning body temperature test, in order for it to be accurate, you must test it at the exact time, place, etc. If you do not standardize the test properly, it will affect the results and that’s why it has been criticized so much.

JP: Okay, how about the adrenals? You’ve mentioned in the past using a product like Standard Process Drenamin to regenerate the adrenals. What is the exact protocol that you use in this case?

ES: If I have someone that is highly stressed, I will start them on hydrocortisone (60 mg for a male, 40 mg for a female) and they do great! This works extremely well for patients with fibromyalgia as well. Remember, these individuals are working their adrenals so hard to make cortisol that the hydrocortisone will literally and figuratively ease the stress! It will help the adrenals rest. There afterward, I may prescribe a product like Drenamin.

I don’t really use protocols in my office because as soon as I say I have a protocol, someone is going to come around and mess it up. My theories will go down the drain and one patient can throw everything out the window! It’s always different for everyone. I may say out of hundred people, 50 or 60 can use this protocol. That is a safer approach.

I generally check the adrenal gland function by measuring DHEAS, cortisol (urine cortisol if possible), T4, T3, TSH, estrogen, progesterone, and (total & free) testosterone. I would then screen for symptoms.

JP: What about using something like licorice root to extend the half life of cortisol?

ES: Ohhh, I have some beautiful info for you. Okay, oral licorice will extend the half life of cortisol but at the expense of what? Your androgenic hormones – that means lower testosterone! However, if you topically apply licorice cream to an area, guess what happens? You lose fat in that area! I’m not making this stuff up – it has been confirmed through ultrasound measurements.

JP: Speaking of losing fat, I’ve heard you mention that females have higher intramuscular triglyceride levels and because of this, their training should be slightly different than that of males for body composition. You recommend that they follow their high-intensity interval work with lower intensity activity. Can you discuss this further?

ES: There are two types of triglycerides – one in the plasma and the other in the muscle. My theory is that you start females on a 5-10 minute warm-up, for example a jog, not only to lower blood sugar but also plasma triglycerides. Then you introduce high-intensity interval training (HIIT). I have discovered that the optimal time for HIIT is 12 minutes of 6-12 seconds high intervals followed by 9-15 seconds of low intervals. Keep in mind that you might start a beginner at only 3 minutes total duration and then gradually ramp them up from there. Then, you can end with a 5-10 minute cool-down. You can extend this a little longer for females but maximum duration of time should not exceed 42 minutes – after this point, you start eating away your muscles!

JP: Sounds reasonable. I’m curious, what type of prescription do you use to detoxify the liver? And how often?

ES: In my office, I have access to IV administration which is the route I would take if a patient has a drastic liver condition such as hepatitis. However, for a simple detox, there are a few requirements:

  1. Fix the diet. Make sure they are eating properly.
  2. Give them enzymes because the liver, believe it or not, will make enzymes as well so that will ease the burden.

JP: Let me interject for one second, Eric. When you prescribe digestive enzymes, when the hell should you take them? Before the meal? During the meal? After? Everyone seems to have a different recommendation!

ES: Okay, first of all, as soon as you start chewing something, your system begins to make enzymes. Now if you have someone that has problems producing [stomach] acid, then give them HCL at the beginning of the meal and digestive enzymes half an hour after the meal to aid digestion. For those individuals who do not have acid-related problems, they can take a broad-spectrum enzyme during their meal.

There are generally three reasons that people would take enzymes in supplement form:

  1. As an anti-inflammatory agent (in which case, you would take them on an empty stomach between meals),
  2. For digestive purposes (see above), or
  3. To ease the stress on the liver and pancreas.

If it is for the latter purpose, then take your enzymes half an hour before you eat to get them into your system thereby reducing the stress on the liver and pancreas when you do eat. You see, so timing of enzymes (or any supplement for that matter) really depends on the purpose!

JP: Ahhh, understood. Glad I asked. Let’s get back to the liver!

ES: Yes, by the way, anyone that works out will have elevated liver enzymes. The liver will work harder if you are training. There’s no doubt about that. I would prescribe enzymes as I just mentioned, as well as glutathione, alpha-lipoic acid, high doses of Vitamin C (at least 3 grams orally), and co-enzyme Q-10. Why co-Q10? Because the liver is one of the most metabolically active organs in the body! It is always working and there are plenty of mitochondria to support.

Also, make sure that they stay away from casein products. Casein is a ³cheesy² protein that will form a glob in your stomach and many people have a hard time digesting it. It is a major allergen in most people, and thus, the liver is forced to make antibodies which in turn, can overwork it.

Whey, on the other hand, is okay to use preferably hydrolysed whey. In general, I am a fan of quality whey protein concentrate, but in this case, it may not be beneficial due to higher lactose levels, and as you know, many people are lactose intolerant.

However, if I had only one choice for a protein though, then I would have to go back to breast milk! What does breast milk give that no other protein source can deliver? Colostrum, IGGs, IGMs, Lactoferrin, etc. Basically, all the growth properties for human development. There is no other source of protein that quite compares to breast milk. Period.

There’s a product out there called 80-40 which is a combination of lactoferrin and colostrum but no one knows about it yet (until now, of course!) We’ve tested it with great results! In six weeks of using this product (15 grams taken three times a day between meals for a total of 45 grams per day), subjects gained 11-12 pounds of muscle. They did not change their lifestyle at all and there was no drug involvement. Everything else remained constant. Ultimately, this product is trying to replicate the growth properties found in mother’s milk, and let me tell you, it is awesome! It really works! I’ll send you some to try out.

JP: I guess you can look at this product as tit for tat! Please do send me some when you get a chance – I just ran out of my supply of “breast” milk! My youngest is too old now for the so-called “fountain of youth!” Oh well.

How we went from one of the most under-appreciated organs to one of the most appreciated organs (at least for males, that is), I don’t know but let’s get back to that subject.

How do you feel about cleansing diets? What about cleansing supplements? RenewLife, for instance, has heavy metal, parasite, liver and colon cleansing kits. Would these be good to take periodically, say one every 3-4 months? And if so, would you enhance any of them?

ES: First of all, I would not consider these as cleansing products, but rather, therapeutic products because you are treating a condition. As far as cleansing is concerned, I would never advocate a complete fast where you eat no food for several days, nor would I recommend a juice fast. These are very unhealthy practices. I would, on the other hand, encourage increase fluid intake (i.e. water, soups, etc.) and I always include enzymes for this purpose.

JP: Not to belabor this point, but when would you use enzymes here? With meals? Between meals?

ES: Both times.

JP: Now, is it possible to take too many enzymes in day? I mean, is it detrimental to take them too often? Will they shut down your own production due to overconsumption?

ES: No, they will not because the enzymes will start working but they will also break each other down. In other words, the enzymes you consume will form a complex with those in the body, and this complex, will slowly be broken down (i.e. digested) over time.

In 1962, there was an interesting study where they took different organs, chopped them up and traced them in the body using a radioactive marker. Using chopped up heart, for example, they found that 71% of the tracer ended up in the heart! Chopped liver ended up in the liver, etc. Why this occurs, no one knows. Only God knows.

Take the animal kingdom for example, when a lion kills its prey, the King of the litter will come and eat the liver first. Then everyone else can have the rest. No one can touch that liver except for the King. Why? Something is going on but we don’t really know the answer.

Also, North America is the only culture that does not routinely consume these internal organs. Where I come from, we eat everything – tongue, heart, lungs – you name it. Back in Puerto Rico, there was a time when boxers would recommend that you eat the internal organs to improve performance.

JP: Really! In that case, is it better to use bovine or porcine concentrates in supplements?

ES: If it is organic, favor bovine. If not, then use porcine. You don’t want to mess with mad cow disease.

JP: Never thought of that. Okay, what can you tell me about hydrogen peroxide IV drips?

ES: This is very controversial, actually. There is a big lawsuit right now where a lady in Florida died from hydrogen peroxide therapy and the family is suing the physician. The American College of Advanced Medicine is going to battle to try to protect this guy.

Now, if you asked me if this stuff will kill you, I’d say no way! It’s a great way to kill bacteria in the body, but it won’t kill you if administered properly. I have many colleagues that swear by it.

Keep in mind that infections in the 1950’s and 60’s were treated with IV acid and it worked great!

[Traumeel injected straight into an injured muscle is very effective. Within 24 hours, you will notice a considerable difference. People who could not lift their arm, for instance, had full mobility the next day after being injected with Traumeel. It’s quite impressive.]

Memorizing quotes throughout the day can help us all stay motivated and remember what we strive for and in turn make decisions that move us in the direction we want to go. Life can often prove difficult and confusing to navigate. Quotes about the lives of successful world and religious leaders give us some insight into how to live the life we really want.

For example, Gandhi said “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” This quote reminds us that we need to be nice to each other to become better people and learn more about ourselves. It tells us to forget about ourselves and put others first in order to become the people we want to be. Gandhi is well known and respected by many and these quotes about Gandhi’s life will help us learn from his wisdom and lead a better life. Reading quotes about the lives of those we respect is like being able to turn to our heroes for advice and encouragement. We can get a glimpse of the knowledge they gained from their lives and learn the philosophy that led them to their greatest achievements.

Inspirational quotes are a great way to get motivated to do something bigger than normal everyday activities. For example, Google co-founder Larry Page said, “I think it’s often easier to make progress on mega-ambitious dreams. Because nobody else is crazy enough to make it happen, you have less competition. In fact, there are so few people crazy enough that I It feels like I know them all on a first name basis.” People like Larry Page, who have achieved great things in their lives, can also inspire us to step out of our comfort zones and achieve great things. This quote inspires us to dream big and not question ourselves, because he was able to achieve beyond what people thought possible. As John Updike said “Dreams come true. Without that possibility, nature will not motivate us to achieve them.” Larry Page is a good example of this quote. We can be inspired by these quotes to dream and grow bigger. There are many times in life when giving up seems like the only option, but if you read an inspirational quote and remember it, it will be easier to move forward and find solutions instead of just focusing on the problems. The problem and how impossible it all seems. These quotes can help you by lifting your spirits and guiding you towards a more positive mindset and life.

Sometimes, all people need is a person to help them believe in their dreams and goals, to push them through difficult situations until they reach the finish line. Life can be very challenging, even everyday problems can arise. However, when we read and apply these inspirational quotes from respected individuals, we are reminded that others have traveled this road before us and emerged victorious. American poet, Langston Hughes tells us to “Hold on to your dreams because if dreams die, life is a bird with broken wings that cannot fly.” He is trying to inspire us to never give up on our dreams in life or let our lives fall short of what they could have been. It is easy to see what famous philosophers, religious and political leaders, successful business men and women, and poets have devoted time to studying life and success and shared the results of their life experiences in these quotes. They benefit us in many ways.

Do University Of Arizona Students Get Discounts On Football Games 7 Qualities of Winning Athletes

You are searching about Do University Of Arizona Students Get Discounts On Football Games, today we will share with you article about Do University Of Arizona Students Get Discounts On Football Games was compiled and edited by our team from many sources on the internet. Hope this article on the topic Do University Of Arizona Students Get Discounts On Football Games is useful to you.

7 Qualities of Winning Athletes

All things being equal, what differentiates winning players? When elite athletes are competing, the gap in abilities between first and last place athletes is relatively small. You have to dig a little deeper to understand what sets the top 1% of elite athletes apart from the rest.

Brian Bennett, a redshirt freshman quarterback for the University of Oregon Ducks, displayed the qualities of a great quarterback. After Darron Thomas was injured, he was given a chance to play in the game against Arizona State University. Most players have the physical ability, but it takes more than that to get into a close game and win. “I just tried to stay calm, cool and collected and go out there and play football and have fun,” Bennett said.

Proper training builds strength and endurance. Mindfulness strategies improve focus and increase confidence. High performance requires combining physical training with both components, mental game strategies.

Elite athletes view performance and victory through different lenses. Where elite athletes focus their attention and focus is different than average athletes.

1. Motivation – A strong desire to be the best you can be. Being good enough is not enough. Elite athletes always have a deep need to improve, taking their performance to the next level.

2. Initiative – Driven players don’t wait to be given permission to do something. They are leaders in everything they do, setting the standard of excellence.

3. No Excuses – Being the best requires total commitment. Rather than seeing obstacles as problems, elite athletes approach them as challenges to overcome. The goal is the primary focus.

4. Determination – All challenges have solutions. Elite athletes are actively seeking opportunities to help them reach their goals. Failure is not an option.

5. Strengths Based Approach – Focus on strengths. Elite athletes know where they excel and use it to their advantage. Find the best approach based on your strengths. Also develop necessary skills to mitigate weaknesses.

6. The Extra Mile – A strong commitment sets elite athletes to go the extra mile. Even when no one is looking, they push themselves to be the best they can be.

7. Tough-minded – Athletes are expected to do things that constantly stretch them. Tough-minded players admit to discomfort, but don’t let it stop them. Taking risks and pushing beyond their comfort zone is part of the champion mentality.

A success mindset comes more naturally to some than others. Fortunately, it is not a birthright. Just like new techniques and skill sets, the champion mindset can be learned. Given the circumstances, it would have been easy for Bennett to panic. It was a high pressure situation. His teammates responded positively to his confidence and ease when he faced a challenge.

A champion mindset focuses on solutions, not problems. Elite athletes are creative in their approach to challenges, willing to take risks. Bennett was all about results. Focusing on solutions with a positive mindset influenced his approach to challenging sports. He got a chance to play his ‘A’ game. Bennett’s champion mentality contributed to the Ducks’ winning streak.

Snowboarding Lake Tahoe – Best Cheapest Deals to Maximize Your Snowboard Experience!

Ok turkey, so you love snowboarding!

Whether you’re from the Bay Area or somewhere within driving range of Lake Tahoe, you love boarding at Alpine Meadows, Diamond Peak, Mount Rose, Northstar at Tahoe, Squaw Valley, Sugar Bowl, Boreal, Donner Ski Ranch, Soda Springs, Tahoe Donner, Heavenly, Homewood. , Kirkwood, or Sierra at Tahoe, but you’ll want to make sure you’re getting the most out of every season because snowboarding isn’t cheap!

Well, with you in mind and after the exhaustion, I’ve put together your perfect snowboarding guide.

Here’s how to plan your snowboard trip.

1) Weather, check the weather! Want to know if you need 4 wheel drive, chains, or if you need to leave early to beat storms and/or traffic!

2) Transportation, personally, I prefer to get a few more people involved, rent a car and save yourself the headache of wear and tear on your car, especially if you don’t have 4 wheel drive. Splitting the cost of a rental car and gas with four people can reduce your transportation costs to $25 per head. Additionally, if you can’t keep a group together to keep costs down or you don’t like driving in the snow, you might want to consider taking a bus. There are many bus companies where you can get great deals on bus trips to Lake Tahoe or your favorite ski resort mountain.

3) Tickets! Did you get a season pass? If you plan to visit 5 or more times, this is your most cost-effective option. If you plan to visit more than once but not more than 5 times, you may want to consider the “Multiple Day Pass” available at many of these mountains. Whether you want to go to the mountains for just one day or several, Craigslist is often full of people trying to land their ticket. Our personal favorite is the “double whammy” season pass offered for $219 if purchased early in the season and you’re a student. If you’re not a student, maybe you can consider taking a couple of classes at your local community college and save yourself a bundle of money.

4) Overnight? Our favorite cheap hotel with a hot tub is called the Tahoe Inn. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can try heading to a couch surfing organization for a free stay and maybe a new friend. =) If you are looking to find a different hotel, check the Kayak website for great discount offers.

5) Community? Want to find other like-minded snowboarders? Google SnowPals organization to find group trips and other discounted events.

6) Equipment, boards, clothes? The Sierra Snowboard Store is on the way from the Bay Area to Lake Tahoe and is huge with great deals and discounts. You can also try Burton or House Snowboarding Company. Find the best protective gear for XSportsProtective. And if you know your size, we recommend searching eBay or Craigslist or Amazon first.

We hope you have benefited from our information, we have a ton more with links on our website.

Do U Need To Buy Football Cleats For Highschool Football Use Rubber Mats to Protect Your Track From Unnecessary Cleat Damage

You are searching about Do U Need To Buy Football Cleats For Highschool Football, today we will share with you article about Do U Need To Buy Football Cleats For Highschool Football was compiled and edited by our team from many sources on the internet. Hope this article on the topic Do U Need To Buy Football Cleats For Highschool Football is useful to you.

Use Rubber Mats to Protect Your Track From Unnecessary Cleat Damage

Summer is approaching and football practice is starting at many high schools and colleges. Football practice involves walking in cleats on feet – hundreds of feet each day – across the oval running track that often surrounds a school’s football field. Running tracks can cost a small fortune and look great. How long they look good depends on the measures taken to protect the track surface. Consider using rubber floor mats to protect your track.

Floor mats can be used to prevent damage to the track by football cleats, turf care vehicles, and other types of equipment that must be rolled onto the track to access the infield area. Track protection is often an afterthought or not considered at all until damage occurs and costly repairs are required. Methods of protection used may include laying over some plywood tracks, carpet remnants, or some other product not designed to protect the substrate below.

Plywood is heavy, dries out over time and is not very attractive. Coaches or athletic directors need to “remember” to put down the plywood, remove it, and find someone to do this ongoing task. Plywood that warps presents a tripping hazard that can cause injury. After all, if your school has invested big dollars in track, stadium, field repainting, and big game decorations, warped plywood will take away from the whole experience.

Using carpet remnants can work sometimes but not for long. Carpet exposed to the elements will harden, soak up water and begin to deteriorate. Gusty winds can also destroy carpets and plywood. Mother’s temper is difficult to control. The answer to this problem is to use floor mats or rubber matting that has certain characteristics:

less attractive – Rubber mats must be thin to prevent tripping and to prevent wind from catching and whirling the product.

Portability – If the floor mats are too heavy, the weight creates another barrier to use. It would be preferable if the floor mats were rolled up for ease of use and carrying.

Durability – Mats must withstand cleats, lawn equipment and tractors. Rubber mats provide durability.

Safe COF – The COF coefficient of friction means that the floor mat should provide a safe walking surface that is not slippery – even when wet. Plywood can become slippery like carpet especially in wet or snowy conditions.

The use of floor mats can provide some protection for the field track. Most floor mats are low profile, portable and provide an acceptable coefficient of friction (COF). Unfortunately, there are hundreds of mats to choose from. What type or types of floor mats offer the best solution?

My suggestion would be to consider rubber mats only. Most floor mats have a backing that looks like rubber but is actually vinyl. Vinyl degrades over time, becoming brittle and breaking. Vinyl floor mats will lose memory and won’t lie flat if rolled and unrolled many times (especially after cooling). If you see floor mats with curled edges or cut edges, they are likely vinyl backed and not rubber mats.

Floor mats usually have a carpet or some type of fabric on the surface. This feature is great for adding color, but does nothing for the functionality of the product. I recommend using a rubber mat with no carpet or fabric on the surface.

Rubber mats offer an excellent coefficient of friction, are easy to roll (portability), are very durable and, when used in 1/8 inch or 1/4 inch gauge, provide a very low profile. Rubber mats are heavy enough to stay in place but not so heavy that they cannot be easily moved. Some rubber floor mats offer a ribbed or pyramid surface for “safety”. This is a feature that is not necessary because rubber already provides a safe walking surface. These nooks and crannies can actually hold water and create a slip hazard in icy conditions, especially in ribbed matting.

When choosing a product to protect your track, you’ll want to consider a rubber mat like Track Shield or some other thin rolled rubber floor mat. Products like these are durable and offer portability that allows floor mats to be used for a variety of applications when a floor or substrate needs to be protected.

Do They Sing National Anthem Before High School Football Game Youth Football – The Cornerstones of Winning When Coaching Youth Football, is it Football Playbooks?

You are searching about Do They Sing National Anthem Before High School Football Game, today we will share with you article about Do They Sing National Anthem Before High School Football Game was compiled and edited by our team from many sources on the internet. Hope this article on the topic Do They Sing National Anthem Before High School Football Game is useful to you.

Youth Football – The Cornerstones of Winning When Coaching Youth Football, is it Football Playbooks?

Lessons for winning when coaching youth football:

Winning in youth football is not much different than winning in other sports. In fact there may be value in looking at teams and coaches in other sports and see if there is anything you can learn to take into your youth football team.

Learning from John Wooden

I am in the process or reading a book about John Woodens “Pyramid of Success”. Although I am not a huge basketball fan, I thought I could learn a thing or two from this UCLA basketball legend who won 7 straight NCAA National Championships, 88 straight games and 38 straight NCAA Tournaments.

Many of you may not know that the program was a joke when John Wooden took over UCLA. As the dairy manager was Coach Wooden’s main source of income, UCLA rarely drew more than 2,000 fans and during his first 17 years had no space on campus to play or practice. The facilities were among the worst in the conference and perhaps the nation, yet his teams were not only successful, but dominated throughout the year.

What surprised me the most about Coach Wooden’s approach to the game was his disdain for the opposition. While he studied some films, he studied much less than his peers. Coach Wooden was adamant that his teams would do what they did best and spent valuable practice time preparing to implement Coach Wooden’s philosophy.

Don’t fear the opposition, worry about yourself

In this book, player after player reiterated what Coach Wooden had said about the opposition. His players were so consistent in the idea that they didn’t really care who they played against or what style they played. In some games UCLA players didn’t even know the names of the opposing players or the conference the opposing team belonged to. It wasn’t because UCLA didn’t respect the opposition, it was because they really thought, no matter who they were playing against, they were going to execute. The UCLA players were playing against themselves, they were playing against their ability, not against the opposing team. UCLA builds against any philosophy, system or contingency.

These UCLA players had a lot of faith in the team, the coaches and the system, not in their individual abilities. This UCLA team and players had a calmness of confidence and invincibility that served them well in close games and intimidated most teams they played.

I see many youth football coaches taking care of the opposition when their own team is struggling with their own execution. I watched a Louisiana youth coach game film last season. Playing in what they claimed was a “tough league” where all the coaches scouted each other, I found little to scout. The execution and alignment of all the teams in this league was atrocious, something I had never seen even in a local in-house rake level league. All these coaches would have been better served teaching their kids their systems and fundamentals without worrying about the opposition. Scouting time was not wasted.

An example is the Nebraska National Championship

My friend Jerry Tagg said exactly the same thing about the 1970 and 1971 University of Nebraska football teams. They went a combined 24-0-1 and won the National Championship. Jerry was the starting quarterback for both of those teams and a team leader on and off the field. When asked what his most lasting memory was from that 1971 season, in which NU outscored its opposition 507-104 and won the national title game over #2 Alabama 38-6, Jerry didn’t hesitate for a moment to say “We knew we were going to To win every game before we step on the field.

Jerry said he had so much faith in himself, his team, his coach and his system, the only question on his mind was how many wins he was going to win. While many of their games were huge blowouts, they trailed #2

Oklahoma has played multiple times in that game, which is still referred to as the “Game of the Century.” Jerry said he never panicked, he knew somehow, somehow he was going to win, he was very excited and confident throughout the game. He said; “We knew we were going to win”, in his mind and the teams mind, the game was a foregone conclusion.

As a kid, I was at every Jerry home game in 1970 and 1971. We used to go to the games very early and we would go near the field and watch the players warming up. It seems so long ago and all those players seemed so grown up like a 10 year old. We used to go down to the stadium and watch the players come out from behind the ropes for kickoff from the locker room. If you lean in too much and smile too big, many players will quickly slap you. What I remember most was how quiet these guys were and none of them jumped up and down or yelled like we see on TV today and even at youth and high school football games. The NU players were always very quiet, a few with a smile or two, but there was zero stay stuff going on. In those days, the team playing Nebraska often played with an inverse correlation to how much emotion it showed. Oklahoma was one of the rare teams back in the day that could consistently compete with Nebraska, and it wasn’t just that, it was just as calm and confident.

60-3 in the 90s

Nebraska football had an era from 1993-1997 when the team went an amazing 60-3, winning 3 national titles along the way and barely losing another. Teams often fell for Nebraska in those days. What I remember most about those teams was that there was zero fanfare, no players had their faces painted, no one was jumping up and down, no one was yelling, it was just Darth Vader walking down the tunnel. Someone was going to take them out that day, and it certainly wasn’t going to be Nebraska. Often the other team looked like little wide-eyed lambs being led to the slaughter, you could feel it in the air. Sometimes the opposing team would show a bit of false nervous bravado, but in those days most of them had eyes that said “I’m not sure what’s going to happen next, but I doubt it’s going to be good for me. Personally”. By the end of the second quarter they were looking for a “soft spot” to land, to use a boxing term. If you know someone who will be in the stadium at the time, ask them. No offense to the opposition, they were always given a standing ovation by NU fans after a game, win or draw. Perhaps this is our way of showing appreciation to the opponents who survived the carnage.

Were the Nebraska players rude, arrogant or disrespectful? Not at all, he had complete faith in his preparation, plan, coach and team. They had no reason to act like clowns, they were just going to do what they knew they could do, game over, move on to the next goal. Now of course we are in a different day, the man has been seen behind the scenes, the aura is gone, Mike Tyson has been knocked out and the giant has found his feet to be of clay. But those were the times and the same monsters exist in youth football today.

Applicable to youth football

What can we do as youth football coaches to instill that confidence in our youth football players?

I can say with great confidence that it can be done. I have done it under the most ridiculous circumstances. I’ve led teams to situations where we faced great odds: In 2003 my 8-10 team played and convincingly beat two 11-12 league championship teams, one in a 10,000-seat college stadium, down 7-0 and severely underachieving. and outmand. In 2004 I led an all-rookie rural team to an 11-0 season and beat the league champions of a major league where more than half of their guys were veteran players. In 2005 I took a team of non-select boys aged 8-10 (all comers) and beat (30-6) a large inner-city select team who had selected from over 150 boys and had not lost in 3 years. They started at least 5 guys who weighed over 150 pounds and one monster over 210, while on the other hand we only had 2 players over 100 pounds. That same year we beat a team that had not lost in 5 years (Mercy ran) (started our fourth team quarterback in that game) and beat the Omaha Select team (36-6) who were the champions of their league. In 2006 I took an 8-10 age group to a tournament

Kansas City and we fielded a team that started 5-6 guys over 150 pounds with 2 huge defensive tackles over 190, remember our starting center only weighed 71 pounds at the time (always the starter out). In 2007 my age 10-11 team played the Malcolm team in which we had 1 to 8 “striped” players during the national anthem. A stripe means a player weighs more than 128 pounds and must wear a stripe on his helmet. Not only did this team outscore us 8-1 on stripers, but their stripers were huge, with at least 3 starters weighing over 180. Our lone streak player weighed 148 followed by our next biggest players at 115 and 105. Each of these games we were behind but the boys were very confident.

How did we do it? I promise you it has nothing to do with paying too much attention to our opposition. Had we done that, I’m not sure we would have had the same level of success. In practice we don’t waste time on frivolous non-football activities and protect the core offense and defense to perfection against the most known contingencies. We know how to defend against each offense and how to respond to specific tactics used to stop your offense. Our kids trust the scheme, their assignments, their technique, execution and coaches. We expect good performance from them and expect them too. Those of you who have game films know that our kids don’t get too excited about touchdowns or big plays, they expect them to happen, same for the coaching staff, you don’t see them jumping or punching. Air, it is expected, quiet calm confidence. We always talk to the kids in the past tense “Remember our 4th touchdown after we score to XYZ”, “After the game remember the other team came a long way to get here and will be very disappointed, don’t jump and get down and take advantage of the win and Let them feel bad, we expect to play well, it shouldn’t be any kind of surprise” etc. I have been told that our children behave with much more confidence than their outward appearance should justify.

Before the game we are away from the competition and arrive very late, we only do 30 minutes pre-game while our opponents do 60-90 minutes. Our kids seem a little oblivious to who we play with, rural, suburban, inner-city, big, out-of-town, etc. Ignoring the opposition and worrying about ourselves, we’ve created that environment. We are always competing against ourselves, our ability, not the opposing team. Match that with our “easy numbers” play mapping system, adjustments and key identifiers, and the need to figure out each opponent is negated. Do we look for our opposition? Very few, maybe one game a year, but they find the heck out of us, and the movie, book, and trading info between them didn’t help much either.

Once you get it rolling, the aura feeds on itself and can include things like championship banners, trophy displays and other examples that reinforce the inevitability of your team’s success in the minds of your players and their opponents.

Miracle Mussi, the Cat, Survives Two Months Locked in a Basement Without Food!

Feb 11, 2013: Mussi, my beloved tabby from South Chicago, did not return from his nightly outing! At first, I thought he was just extending his nightly trip for a few hours, but Mussi remained gone until after midnight. I started searching the neighborhood over and over, calling his name. After hours of fruitless search activities, I gave up and went to bed. I tossed and turned restlessly until the following morning. Early in the morning, I got up and combed the neighborhood again. I extended the search area a few blocks, puzzled at the situation. I kept calling his name “Muuussssiiii!” Nothing! Where could he be?

On no occasion had Mussi ventured far from the house in the past. In seven years, he’d never disappeared like this. Our silent agreement entailed him checking in with me every 30 minutes or so. He had always been sticking to it. So, what happened all of a sudden? My mind played out the worst horror scenarios. Was he locked in some dark basement? Kidnapped? Run over? Chased away by other cats, or worse, dogs? I felt so desperate that I could not think straight. I was way too depressed and anxious.

I alarmed my family and friends, who were at a loss for words. Everyone loved Mussi and knew him as the most intuitive, smart, gentle tiger from Chicago. They felt sorry for me, as I was still reeling from pain due to another crisis and certainly had enough sorrows. After many more searches, I decided to get help. I asked my sister to contact a woman she calls “witch”, her intuitive friend, healer and animal communicator for advice. This woman tuned in and felt that Mussi was slightly injured and hiding in a basement somewhere. She did not feel that he was locked in, but simply hiding out. She said that she would send him energy and guide him home.

No cat appeared. I checked the basements I could get access to and informed the neighbors to do the same. My frustration grew with every passing hour. I scanned the entire area, again and again. Where could this cat be? A neighbor and I checked two buildings’ ground floors and garages for a cat sign, to no avail. Instead, she introduced me to her cats, who I greeted suspiciously. They looked guilty and could have been involved in chasing Mussi away. Everyone was a suspect at this point. Even the other two black cats from the neighbor straight across seemed to paw around shiftily. I clearly needed sleep!

I started tagging the entire district and beyond with “Desperately Seeking Mussi” posters. The initial batch I put up two days after Mussi’s disappearance, covering several blocks. The densely populated area did not make the choices for flyer placement and neighbor conversations any easier. There were simply too many places where Mussi could be hiding, it was making me dizzy. So, I put flyers on any suitable spot; on buildings, doors, lamp posts, garage doors, garbage bins, you name it – Mussi posters went up! Within days, everyone in the area knew my cat was missing.

As the desperation grew, I decided to talk to one of my friends in LA about an animal communicator she had used years back when her cat was missing. She could not remember the name of the lady in Seattle, so I googled on my own. I found her and sent an emergency request. I guess the animal psychic grasped the severity of the situation. She called me back the same day, after I transferred a bit over a hundred bucks to her PayPal. The information she apparently obtained from Mussi was that he went down an alley way, across a field and then crawled into a hole. He seemed to find the inside of the new territory interesting and decided to hang out for a while. This sounded totally unlike Mussi. She claimed that he wasn’t locked in and could potentially get out on his own. She further mentioned that the building was near my house and that we would be reunited one day.

I continued to put more posters up in the neighborhood and ask around. A guy called from a few blocks away, claiming that he had spotted Mussi in his yard. I drove down there instantly, but the cat, of course, was gone. I checked the area, but there was no hint of Mussi.

I expanded the poster and search area a few more blocks. I tagged the post office, the outside of stores, pretty much all lamp posts in the area, bus and train stations. It was cold out. Deep winter had arrived. It did not make Mussi’s survival or my search any easier. Many ol’ nights I froze my fingers off, posting flyers. I did not want to imagine what the cold spell meant for Mussi, wherever he was. I could not bear the thought of Mussi freezing to death somewhere out there in midwinter.

My phone really starting ringing now. I received calls from numerous people, claiming they spotted Mussi in the cemetery, close to a bus station and sitting on a trail and under a car. However, none was able to either snap a picture or catch the cat. As I was at work, it was not always feasible for me to drop everything and follow vague leads.

Then, one Saturday, I got a call from a French lady who found and held a grey tabby captive. She snapped a picture and sent it. I was on a horse when I got the call, about an hour away. I hurried back as the somewhat blurry picture could have been Mussi. An hour later, I found the French lady in the described area, with four children and a cat gathered around her. Deeply impressed at her determination and persistence, I thanked her immensely for trying to help. Unfortunately, the captured cat was not Mussi and could get released.

It had been way over a week now and still no cat. He was my precious baby, who moved from Chicago to Zurich with me, three and a half years ago. He loved Switzerland as he could venture outside, which was not feasible downtown Chicago. All my life I’ve had cats, but none as special as Mussi. I was deeply connected to him and loved him from the bottom of my heart. Mussi to me resembled a cat embodiment of Mother Teresa. I knew he was alive, but I simply was unable to fathom where. I missed his cuddling up to me every night, his comfort when I was not feeling well and the many different faces and sounds of Mussi.

Where was he? I knew he would have never left on his own. Increasingly, I started to suspect he was abducted. Or did he attempt to go back to his old house where we lived until a few months prior, and got lost on the way there? I had alerted the ex-neighbors and skimmed the area. Nobody had seen Mussi there. The old neighbors, who used to watch Mussi, were on constant lookout for him. I knew they’d do a great job, but I tagged the entire area with Mussi flyers.

I got a call from an energy healer who lived near my old house. She said she spotted my flyer and just a few minutes after spotted a cat that looked like a spitting image of Mussi. She swore it was him. Her intuition, she said, never lied. So, I drove down there to see if I could still see traces of my cat, but there was nothing.

Despite all the Mussi search activities that had been ongoing for two weeks, I decided to go snowboarding for a couple of days. I needed to get away. I was going insane. On my way home Sunday night from the mountains, I got a call from my cosmetologist who lived near my old house. Her voice was frantic as she screeched something about having caught my cat and that I should show up right away to pick him up. I drove down to her house, still dressed in snowboard pants. Indeed, she was sitting in front of a tabby, but it wasn’t Mussi. However, that cat was clearly lost and confused and looking for his home. A beautiful kitty this guy was and I felt sorry for him. Adrienne said, “Just take him instead or yours!” Sorry, but there was no quick replacement for Mussi! It broke my heart to see this cat hysterically searching for his home. So, I told Adrienne that if nobody else takes him in the coming days, I would, temporarily anyway! Luckily, a neighbor was kind enough to give him shelter a few days later.

I had also reported Mussi missing with petlink.com, the chip company, hoping that a finder would take him to a vet or hospital where he would get scanned and reported to me. Further, I advised animal clinics and vets in the area about the missing Mussi. Online, I had posted missing Mussi ads on various lost pet sites.

I started receiving emails from people who identified with my pain and tried to give advice. Some mentioned to intensify the search after midnight, others insisted I should not give up hope as they had lost their cats for up to a year and then got reunited. One person even offered to come help search at night or in the wee hours.

A lady from about five blocks away called saying “Don’t tell anyone, but I feed the foxes at night.” I said that I would not utter a word and that she should continue. It seems that the past few nights, a cat had shared the fox’s chicken leg she dropped outside her window. In fact, the cat was faster than the fox and got its share early on. The lady insisted that the fox food thief was my cat. I agreed to check up on it. She promised to call the same night right after dropping the chicken outside. She did. I immediately left my house to see the scene for myself. And really, a cat showed up just five minutes after the chicken was out to feast on it. But it wasn’t my kitty – again! But now I was an insider of the fox feeding conspiracy!

I contacted another animal communicator somewhere in Nevada. She tuned in and dowsed the map of my surrounding area. She claimed a neighbor was holding Mussi hostage and that I should launch an attack on that house. She was sure. I got binoculars, sat myself in a bush at night and ogled the area. No cat. I even put fliers in all mailboxes belonging to that building, rang a few doorbells and asked, but nothing.

More calls were coming my way. A clerk who worked in a nearby company reported “Oh, your tomcat has been visiting us here for weeks. I will send you a picture.” I did receive the photo. A nice, totally happy tabby stretched out on his desk. While he looked similar, it was not Mussi. I thanked him and felt he was glad that the long tiger wasn’t my cat. He seemed to love this tabby visiting him in the afternoon for playtime.

I decided to push my luck and contacted Joseph McMoneagle, a super famous remote viewer, who worked for the US Army for twenty years, remote viewing and finding top secret military buildings, equipment and people. After his stint in the Army, he became famous remote viewing for corporations or live on Japanese TV. Joe had written several bestsellers on the topic and was the rock star in the field of “psychic spy” work. I met Joe a few times in Virginia and decided to ask for help. A regular session with him usually cost thousands of dollars, but he was kind enough to supply a drawing with indications about the cat’s whereabouts. I surveyed the specified area, but could not find anything that looked like Mussi. I put up more flyers in the pointed out area, which led to a few calls of cat sightings, but nothing serious. A cat as a target appears a lot harder than a human or a machine.

The cat who stretched out on the clerk’s desk got reported to me again by a local football club member. He called and said “I found your cat and am holding him in our clubhouse.” I ran down there and saw the same tabby stretched out on the floor, watching football with the dudes. What a funny sight it was. This cat seriously got around. I thanked them for the effort and left, dejected. It had been almost four weeks now and I started to lose hope.

That famous tabby got reported a third time by a nice woman about a mile away from my house. He had invaded her balcony and gave sinister stares at her indoor kitty.

But where in the world was my tabby?

Then, I got a call from many blocks away in the middle of the night one Friday. A couple had captured a tabby, sent a blurry picture that left too much room for interpretation. So, again, I drove down there to check and of course, it wasn’t Mussi. But I had to follow these leads just to make sure.

Another neighbor, an old lady, called me twice to pledge allegiance and promised to turn over every rock in the neighborhood. She had spotted tabbies and just needed a color picture to confirm which one was mine. I happily supplied her with a picture. The lady was retired and had all day to skim the vicinity. Unfortunately, she never reported the “right” tabby.

By now, the entire neighborhood was involved in the search and people really got talking. The community became a real community again because of Mussi. Everyone was on a mission to recover the sweet little furry creature.

I hired another highly recommended animal communicator. What did I have to lose? His results left me unimpressed. He pointed out a tree-covered park-like area and insisted the cat was hiding there. The homes right behind that area appeared to be another target for him. Long ago, I had tagged flyers all over that area. However, I ventured down there again to check and found Mussi-like fur on a field. It looked like a cat-fox fight had taken place. My heart sank to the ground. I thought, of course, the fox took and devoured him. My mom agreed with my suspicion. But who really knew? Sure thing was – this animal communicator made another 175USD of me – for nothing.

Another “pet detective” from Los Angeles, who works on a donation basis, suggested Mussi to be near that same area. As she apparently combines her common cat search sense with psychic intuition, she recommended to sit near that area with a book, as cats supposedly come out when one is quiet and reading. While this may work for other cats, I knew Mussi would come immediately if he did spot me. She further recommended to put out “fish trails” from various directions to my house. Supposedly, a few of her clients got their missing cats back with this tactic. As I left no stone unturned, I mixed up cat food with fish sauce and trailed it from numerous directions to my deck. After a while, I spotted several confused cats sitting on or near the trail and enjoyed quite a few cat visitors on my deck. The perplexed cats stared at me in disbelief. They seemed to ask, “Are you insane?” Well, was I? I started to believe myself that I’d gone over the edge.

A young woman named Kerstin contacted me (she saw my posters) and insisted she’d help me in my search. So, one Sunday she came to my house and we once again, scanned the entire area. Once more, we came back empty-handed. She volunteered to print colored Mussi pictures and hand them out in the neighborhood (my flyers were black and white). She further offered to help me further in my quest and stayed in touch. I really appreciated the help and got more and more amazed about the community and the remarkable people in it.

Mussi had been missing for a month and a half now and my hope for successful recovery sank to rock-bottom levels. Which cat would survive for this long out there in the cold or locked in somewhere?

While I was still getting calls from people who spotted tigers under cars, crossing the road or invading their balconies, I knew none of these were Mussi. He was elsewhere. Perhaps, he was far away, locked in a prison or dead. I had a bleak picture in front of my eyes. Yet, somehow, I still felt him alive, but barely.

Beginning of April, I felt the need to get away from it all and joined a four-day Tibetan Buddhist meditation up in the Alps. The theme fittingly was “Purification” – just what the doctor ordered. I bathed in the marvelous energy and was able to get really deep into meditation and cleanse quite a few impurities out of my system. I felt like a load was lifted off my shoulders after four days and with renewed energy I went home. Before I left there, a friend mentioned “Now, Susanne, I would be surprised if your cat reappeared as your karma has completely changed.”

She was right. Before midnight, less than week after the meditation, on April 11, 2013, I received an email from petlink, reporting Mussi had been found. I thought it was a joke. I contacted them immediately and got information where and who to contact for further data. He got scanned by the animal hospital in Zurich! I was amazed at this outstanding service. At the same time, I got a call from a neighbor, very early on that infamous Friday morning, telling me about a half-dead cat she found that night.

The nice woman, named Nathalie, breathlessly told a story about how she found Mussi, who appeared to be paralyzed, totally starved and dropped in front of her garage. Someone must have put him there and set some milk in a bowl next to him. She said she did not know what to do at first, but immediately googled for options on cat rescue services. She called one of the numbers she found and within an hour, the animal rescue service “Tierrettungsdienst” showed up to take the seriously emaciated cat to the animal hospital. Before they came, Nathalie walked up to one of my flyers to get Mussi’s name. She then went back to him and called him “Mussi.” He responded with a weak, desperate “meow.” She had never seen an animal in such bad shape before, unable to coordinate his limbs, yet still alive. She stayed and talked to him for over an hour until the rescuers showed up to take him to the animal hospital in Zurich (Tierspital Zurich).

All I could do after I heard this story is cry and frantically make my way to the hospital. The grim description of my cat’s condition left me with little hope to find him alive. Tears gushed down my cheeks, I was unable to control any of it. I called my family to share the news. They could not grasp that Mussi was alive. They were in complete and utter shock. At the hospital, Mussi was reported as a “homeless cat”, but not for long. I both dreaded and longed to see him. I was expecting the worst. Then they brought him in. He had spent the night at the ICU and just got released. Here he was. Just a bag of bones, unable to coordinate any movements, totally emaciated, still panicked – a heart wrenching sight. My heart ached. I cried relentlessly. But Mussi recognized me. He meowed and tried to lift his head. The fact that he was released from the ICU meant that he would most likely live as an assistant “illegally” told me! The vets, however, were careful in giving me complete reassurance, but mentioned the chances for his survival were good. I could not believe it – he would live!

Thanks to a nice neighbor, petlink.com, the animal rescue service, my 200 flyers that I posted, and the animal hospital, Mussi was alive and we were reunited.

But immediately, questions creeped into my head. What would his future look like? And where had he been? Could he recover from this?

According to Nathalie, who found Mussi, a locked in, meowing cat would have been detected in her building. People passed the storage areas in the basement on their way up to the apartments. Frightened meows would have been heard. Was Mussi locked inside another building? Did he crawl to this garage with his last strength after finally having been released? Perhaps, we will never know.

Nevertheless, he must have got water from somewhere, as otherwise, survival would have been impossible. Perhaps, he licked dew or rainwater was able to enter his prison? For certain, he’d had no food for two months, judging by his gaunt state. Two months!!

His legs were bandaged up, an IV fed fluids and much needed vitamins into his veins. I sat there stunned, staring at not even half the cat Mussi used to be. I still could not believe he was back and alive. It took me a few days to grasp that. For quite a while I suffered from nightmares about the starvation camp he was locked in. Although, I was overjoyed about his return, the pictures of his prison took a while to fade.

The vets and staff at the university animal hospital in Zurich gave Mussi the best care! They were fantastic! Mussi even received daily physical therapy to get his muscles and nerves working again. And he wanted to live! That was the most important ingredient. And he was loved and received healings from many friends and family on a daily basis.

The worst problem was his severe deficiency in Thiamine, an essential B vitamin for cats. Depletion of such causes ataxia (loss or coordination), seizures, inability to raise the head and twitching. Mussi suffered from all the above. B1 or Thiamine is not stored in a cat’s body and is quickly depleted. Two months of starvation led to severe B1 deficiency. The drip would help, but it took time.

Vets and staff shook their heads in disbelief about Mussi’s survival. They were stunned at the strength and willpower of this cat. They had to admit that they had never seen a case like him before.

I visited the American patient every day in the hospital. For five days, he was too apathetic and exhausted to notice much around him. He just slept. Any efforts on his part to try and move resulted in seizure-like attacks, which left him frustrated.

Many, many friends, energy and Pranic healers, Reiki masters kept sending Mussi healing energy and in doing so sped up his recovery. These remarkable people had helped in the search for Mussi all along. Perhaps, it is these miracle workers who helped Mussi survive for two months in a dark basement? May be the Pranic energy kept him alive as we kept sending it all that time he was missing too. I am deeply grateful to everyone who helped and supported the search and recovery, in spirit, mentally, physically or energetically.

After one week, Mussi’s lethargy lifted a bit, and so did his head. He was able to bend the head from side to side and his eyes followed me slowly but curiously. Another day after, Mussi got up on his shaven (to insert the IV), skinny legs and pressed his behind against my scratching hand. “Wow!” I cried out in amazement. Mussi was back!

Mussi got up and walked around the entire room after only two weeks in the hospital! What an incredible cat. When he arrived on April 11, 2013, the vets thought him more in nirvana than here on Earth. And only two weeks later, the Chicago kitty was back on his paws!

Around the same time, I had a long discussion with one of the friendly vets at the hospital. He was recovering very quickly, he said, unusually quickly. The staff at the hospital knew Mussi as Miracle Mussi, a true hero. Although, he suffered a few setbacks, like inflamed, overworked pancreas or a low red blood cell count, nothing could stop Mussi now from a total comeback. He was determined to come home and get his old, sweet life back. And so he did, on May 3, 2013 – Mussi arrived at home.

Thank you Tierspital!

Thank you Tierrettungsdienst!

Thank you petlink

Thank you neighbor!

Thank you healers, family and friends!
